Set your DVRs to record tonight’s CNN special called “#BeingThirteen at 9 PM EST. You may even want to encourage parents to watch it as well. Over a six-month period, CNN followed hundreds of 8th graders to “analyze what kids say to each other on social media and why it matters so deeply to them.”
Some scary facts that emerged from the documentary:
- The middle schoolers checked their social media more than 100x a day.
- More than a third of the middle schoolers purposely excluded others online.
- 15% of middle schoolers admitted that they received inappropriate photos.
- Some of the teens took more than 200 selfies before selecting one to post.
The documentary will also show parents how to handle social media with their children.
