Although it’s not new, the Knoster Model for Change is again making the rounds on Twitter, thanks to the useful graphic to the right.
According to Dr. Knoster, there are five elements required for effective change: vision, skills, incentives, resources and an action plan. If any of these five things are missing, there is a corresponding “symptom.”
It may seem simple, but the model is powerful. For example, if a leader senses a high level of frustration from her teachers regarding a change she wants to implement, this chart could help her realize that the teachers may need more resources. If the teachers are confused, then she may not have clearly articulated her vision.
