Food for Thought Friday: Can You Become More Creative By Embracing Limitations?

by Kristie Burk

If you do nothing else this weekend, take 10 minutes to watch this TED talk by Phil Hansen. He’s an artist with nerve damage in his hand that causes it to shake.  He’ll explain how he used this limitation to become more creative.  You MUST watch the entire video, which includes art made out of worms, hamburger grease and matches. It is truly inspirational.

Most of what we do takes place here, inside the box with limited resources.  Learning to be creative within the confines of our limitations is the last hope we have to transform ourselves and collectively to transform our world. – Phil Hansen

From a teaching perspective, this video made me think about how we could explore the idea of “limitations” in our classrooms.  This TED talk will certainly give you some food for thought this Friday.  You can tweet about using #foodforthoughtfri.
